Condolence: Words cannot express the sadness I felt when I heard the news of David's passing. I did not have the good fortune of knowing David personally but did know and work with his father John. Knowing John Draa as a mentor and leader, I knew that his sons Roy and David are his pride and joy. A day never passed without John expressing the pride he has for his family. My heartfelt sympathies are extended to the entire Draa family. I am very saddened by your loss of David.

Condolence: I didn't know David as a man but I knew him as a child. He and my son Tim were best buddies in elementary school, were in scouting together as well as often being on the same little league teams. As I look through our photo albums there is Dave with his smile looking out as us from birthday parties, pinewood derby meets and on the ball field. He was a very special boy, happy, helpful, kind, fun and a bit mischevious. He was around so much that he felt like another of my sons. Dave will be remembered with great affection. Our love and prayers go out to Marsha, John, Roy and the rest of the family

Condolence: Dave and I student taught together in college. His students adored him just as much then as they do now. I am so blessed to have had him come into my life at that time. He always gave me the confidence and support to do the best in both my professional and personal life. I was also blessed when he found me again years later and we had the chance to reconnect briefly. There is nothing but fond memories of the time I spent with him. I thank your family for giving me the opportunity to have such a bright spot in my life. He always has and will forever have a place in my heart. Deepest sympathies to you.

Condolence: I didn't know Dave well. I was on my way back into civilian life, as he was on his way into the Corps. Our paths did cross though, and I did get an opportunity to know him just a little bit. I can say that he cared, and that he was genuine. And I know very good men who hold him in high esteem. He was a good man and I'm very sorry that this has happened. To his family and friends, you have my condolences and my thoughts are with you.

Condolence: Marsha, John and family, We are so very sorry for your loss. I know how much you loved your boy and I think fondly of how Marsha, you and I used to share our concern, love, admiration and how much in awe we were of our loved ones overseas. I can not imagine the pain David was in and now that pain that remains with you, but I know God is real, God has taken away David's pain, and He will give you strength to live on - until the day you will reunite with him in heaven. Much love to you - one military family to another. One mother to another. Julia Delligatti

Condolence: After meeting Dave this summer, it didn't take me long to realize what a special kind of man he was. The summer I spent teaching sailing with him was one of the best I've had. He surprised me everyday with his ever-present kindness, optimism and selflessness, and taught me to search for those things in myself. My deepest condolences to you in this time of great sadness, he will truly be missed by many.

Condolence: Draa was a great Marine. He took care of what needed to be done but most of all he took care of his men. He had passion and understanding for everyone. His happy nature made everyone around him in a good mood no matter how horrible the condition might be at the time. You were a great Marine, leader, human being, and friend. You will be missed but never forgotten. I love you brother.

Condolence: Lt. Draa was my Platoon Commander. He is one of the best men that I have met in my life. We met when he came to Weapons Co after our battalion returned from OIF 04-6 in 2006. Lt Draa made it clear that he expected greatness but that he also cared about our moral. He showed me what a true leader with compassion is, something that you don't see everyday in the Marine Corps. The man I met and know is one that will not soon be forgotten. He is and always will be one of the few and the proud. Lt. Draa you taught me how to be a leader of men, for that I will always be indebted to you. Im thankful that our paths crossed in this life. I'll see you when I get there Sir, Semper Fi.

Condolence: I was lucky enough to meet Dave five years ago when we were in the police academy in San Diego. Dave, myself, Ali, Tommy, and Drazen became fast friends and referred to ourselves as the Mope Squad. Dave helped to make the academy fun, and was always sure to include me because I was new to San Diego and didn’t have many friends yet. Dave made the transition easier for me and I am great full for that. When Dave moved back to the East Coast, we drifted apart but still remained friends. Luckily Tommy got married in San Diego back in July, and Dave made the trip with Katie. All of us had the chance to rekindle our friendship and the week leading up to the wedding was one of the best times of my life. I am so thankful for that time. Dave was a great friend and I am so happy for his place in my life. I think of him often. He had a natural ability to lead that cannot be taught. If Dave was by your side you knew everything would be ok. I am praying for the family and I will never forget Dave.

Condolence: If I had a nickel for every "can I help you with something today" or smile from Mr. Draa when I walked into school I could surely retire early. Everyone from the staff to the students loved him, and he equally loved us back. Mr. Draa was an honest, trustworthy and authentic person. You couldn't help but love and respect him. Certainly his contagious optimism, generosity, constant helping hands, and the list of virtues continues, will be a great loss for the world. May God's comforting arms of mercy and love be with the family during this very difficult time.
