Carolyn Alverta Definbaugh, age 83 of Overlea, MD, passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2015. She was born to the late Maurice H Weinreich and Gazella S Long on December 31, 1931, the second youngest of nine children. She was married on April 3, 1948 to her neighborhood sweetheart James M Definbaugh Jr. for 31 years, ending at her husband’s death in 1979. Carolyn never re-married but enjoyed a long relationship with another childhood friend, Nils Johnson.
Starting at an early age of 16, Carolyn worked for Lever Brothers, the Army and Navy Exchange to name a few and finally retiring after 30 years’ service from the City of Baltimore’s Payroll Department. Carolyn also volunteered and worked at election polling places in the Overlea area starting as a helper and ending as the Democratic judge.
Family and friends were Carolyn’s passion and delight. She loved to host and entertain especially during the holidays. She had a special gift for baking and cooking and loved when others were around to enjoy these with her. Carolyn played canasta and rummy with friends, children and grandchildren most of her life. She enjoyed dancing and being around friends who enjoyed life. Carolyn was a member of the Moose Lodge and attended many events at the VFW and Democratic Club.
Carolyn is survived by her sons, James V Definbaugh, Martin L Definbaugh, Pete D Definbaugh, Wayne E Definbaugh and Frank P Definbaugh, and the late Patricia A. Dunnigan; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, located in West Virginia, Florida, Maryland, Ohio, California, and Texas.
The family wishes to thank all of Carolyn lifelong friends and those who cared for her during her recent days for the joy and blessing you brought into her life.
The family will receive friends at the Lassahn Funeral Home, Inc. 7401 Belair Rd. in Overlea on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 from 7-9pm and Thursday April 23, 2015 from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, April 24, 2015 at 10:00am.Interment Loudon Park Cemetery, 3620 Wilkens Ave, Baltimore, MD
