Obituary for David Millea Shanklin

David Millea Shanklin was reunited in heaven with the love of his life, Phyllis Jean Hamilton on Sunday, February 21, 2021.

David was born on June 23, 1941 in Baltimore, MD to Arthur Vincent and Maxine Marie Shanklin. He married Phyllis on August 24, 1968. As a young man his interests were fishing, hunting, boating, scuba diving and working on engines. He served in the Coast Guard Reserves for 32 years and was employed at NSA as a technical engineer for 30 years. As his family grew, his interests transitioned into providing and building a family. He and his wife were active foster parents who opened their home and heart to many foster children. After having three biological children they were able to adopt 12 children, many who were siblings. As a father, he enjoyed being involved with his children through scouting, church youth programs, education, and sporting activities. He also enjoyed spending time with his many horses. He was Christlike in his service to others and always willing to help those in need. He had an incredible mind and loved a good brain teaser or puzzle.

David is preceded in death by Phyllis and three sons; Shawn (Joella Gifford), Earl and Richard. He leaves behind Tammy (Steve Short), Dawn (Jeff Maughan), Sheila (Charles Taylor), Alan (Elizabeth), Cynthia (Bob Haynie), Patricia (Matthew Bibo), Roger, Nicole, Chris (Ashley), Mary, Michael, Charity, 42 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

The viewing will be Saturday, February 26th from 9:30-10:30am and the funeral service will follow at 11:00am. Viewing and Funeral Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 120 Stemmers Run Road. He will be laid to rest in the Moreland Memorial Park Cemetery.
