Obituary for Jean Farrell Stocker (Monroe)
Jean Stocker, 92, died May 21 at her home in Country Garden's Assisted Living in Highland, Maryland. Her viewing will take place at the E.F. Lassahn Funeral Home,P.A. 11750 Belair Road, Kingsville, Maryland on Friday, May 24, from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. Her funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 25 at St. Michael's Lutheran Church, 9534 Belair Road, Perry Hall, Maryland. Interment will be held at St. Michael's Lutheran Church Cemetery. A catered luncheon will then be served in the church fellowship hall, following the committal service.
Jean Farrell Monroe was born on June 24, 1926 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Marie Schwenker and Charles Monroe. Jean and her beloved sister Judy were close siblings. She attended schools in the Ohio area and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry in 1948 from Ohio Wesleyan University. She was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and served as treasurer and vice president. In August 1949, Jean married Lee Baird Stocker from Wheeling West Virginia, and resided in Ohio raising three sons, David, William and Gerald. The Stocker family eventually relocated to the Baltimore metropolitan area. Jean worked as Postmaster of the Fork Post Office near her family's home on an Appaloosa horse farm.
Jean had many interests including sewing, cooking, round and square dancing, playing bridge, and acting as den leader for the scouts. She was always involved in activities and volunteer work at her local church where she taught religion class, counted offerings, and served as a lay pastor. She loved to travel and visited many Caribbean islands, Alaska, Germany and China. She also loved classical music, enjoyed the symphony, helped fellow seniors with their taxes, and was always willing to lend a helping hand. She was an animal lover and enjoyed pets.
Jean babysat and cared for her 5 grandchildren: Christopher, Justin, Joseph, Sarah and William, Jr. Jean is also survived by her sister-in-law Sally Fazekas, niece Ann Hudson and nephew Randy Fazekas, and daughters-in-law Judy and Patty Stocker and the future Debbie Stocker. Jean, you were a kind, loving, and caring woman with many talents. You will be truly missed by all of us who knew and loved you.
