Obituary for Michael Joseph Dietz

Michael J. Dietz, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2023 while surrounded by his loving family after a hard-fought, seven year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 83 years old.
He was born April 2, 1939 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late George F. and A. Gertrude Dietz and grew up in Overlea, MD where he attended St. Michael’s Catholic School. He graduated from Calvert Hall High School and Loyola College in Baltimore.
“Mike” as he was fondly called, was an accountant and President of Baltimore County Savings Bank where he built the bank from one branch to twelve, before retiring in 1999.
He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-two years, Doris Dietz; his devoted daughters Michele Chynoweth and her husband Bill, and Kim Holland and her husband Dale; his cherished grandchildren William, Michael and Kendra Hartlove, Courtney and Connor Holland, and Morgan and Bobby Chynoweth; and his great-grandchildren Marley, William and Lucy. He is also survived by his dear sisters Madeline, Millie and Kathy as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Mike enjoyed life…especially beach vacations in Ocean City, Maryland and trips to Captiva Island and Sanibel, Florida…and eventually he and Doris became “snowbirds” in Fort Myers. He loved sports (all types but especially the Baltimore Ravens and Orioles and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish), steamed crabs, fishing, boating, dancing, skiing, bowling and traveling around the world with Doris. His faith and family meant everything to him. “Pops” loved entertaining his grandkids and great-grandkids.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church (Fullerton) on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at 12:30 pm. Interment St. Joseph Church Cemetery.
