On July 26, 2020 Peter DeForest Johnson beloved husband of Rosalbina (nee Gomez) Johnson; devoted son of Judith (nee DeForest) Johnson of Ashland, OR and the late Peter A. Johnson; loving father of Erin Garcia and her husband Mike of Thousand Oaks, CA, Carrie Sailstad and her husband Peter of Dunedin, FL, Meredith Johnson and her husband Alan Peinado of Thousand Oaks, CA, cherished grandfather of Kyla Garcia, Colin Garcia, Rawley Peinado; dear brother of Holly Connell of Ashland, OR, Scott Johnson of Newmarket, NH, Chris Johnson of Ashland, OR, Gail Arhangelsky of Palm Harbor, FL; he is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, coworkers, brothers and sister-in-laws.

Our beloved Peter Johnson was an incredible, selfless human being, who lived life to the fullest. Peter enjoyed an active lifestyle of hiking, cycling, backpacking, fishing, wood-working, aviation, and scuba diving, as well as traveling, cooking and having a family life. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, colleague, and friend, and respected by all who were fortunate to know him. Peter was a thoughtful, strong leader and a calming presence, reliable and able to find the bright side in any situation. After graduating from Dartmouth College, he enjoyed a career as an officer in the U.S. Coast Guard and after that, as a mechanical engineer in the defense industry. His continuous guidance, knowledge, and dedication will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation

My deepest sympathy to Peter's family. I had the pleasure of working with Peter for many years, right from the start of his career at Textron Systems - then AAI Corp. He was a mentor to me at that time and showed me the ropes of a new business venture for the company; which in succeeding years outgrew the both of us - mainly due to Peter's innovation and business sense. Our time working on the same programs included many trips around the country, so I got to see the personal side of Peter in addition to the business side. They turned out to be the same. He treated everyone with the same respect and courtesy no matter what the situation. Calm and collected in all situations, he was a steady hand. I got the impression he could handle everything and anything he encountered. Not surprising, given some of the stories he told me about his Coast Guard years, or diving, or biking, or the last few years dealing with cancer. Peter was a great guy. Someone to be admired and looked up to and to emulate. I know he made an indelible impression on me and my life. I am glad to have known him and will never forget him. Best regards - Bob Storke

I'm incredibly sad to hear that my friend and colleague has passed. He was such an encouragement and inspiration to me and never once made me feel inferior as a young female in engineering. He was always happy, with helpful advice; loved to talk about the outdoors; and is still one of the most brilliant engineers I know to this day. He never really talked about his struggle with cancer, but I could tell he was exhausted on some days, but he kept pushing through to complete any and every task he could. You were such a lovely person, Pete. You will be missed.

Peter was always in his room reading. He was so quiet, but had a big smile for everyone. I felt bad because he was always put in charge of his 6 cousins. We were brats, but he stayed calm and put up with us. Peter you were too young to go. What a loss.
