Obituary for Roy Allen Ross
Roy A. Ross, of Baldwin, MD, was surrounded by loved ones as he passed away on March 29, 2023 at the age of 77. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Helen Ross (nee Jenkins), daughter Karen Gratton (Jim), son Jim Ross, and daughter Janice Wilson (Charlie). He was a wonderful grandfather and will be missed by Kristen Gratton (Patrick Sullivan), Lindsay Gratton, Erica Gratton, Chloe Wilson, Katerina Wilson, Taylor White, and Matthew White. He is also survived by his great-grandson, Parker, his sister Cherie Metzger, his brother Bob Ross (Jeannie), and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Roy C. Ross and Beryl Ross (nee Strope).
Roy was born in Elmira, NY and moved to Maryland as a teenager. He met Helen in high school and they married in 1966. He worked for several companies through the years including Bendix Corp. Kayhouse Realty, AT&T, Sherwin Williams, and American Radiology. He enjoyed seeing National Parks, especially Yellowstone, and took several road trips out west with family. He loved to watch his kids play sports when they were young and you could find him at almost every game. He also coached softball for Carroll Manor Rec. Council in the early 80’s. He enjoyed bowling for many years and participated in various leagues – both duckpin and tenpin. He also liked to play an occasional round of golf. He was an avid Baltimore sports fan and would be found watching (or listening) to the Orioles in the summer and the Ravens in the winter. He was always trying to help people and would do anything asked of him to assist a friend. He was loved by all who were fortunate enough to know him and will be truly missed.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 11th at 11:30 am at Wilson United Methodist Church Cemetery, 4507 Long Green Road, Glen Arm, MD. In lieu of flowers, please perform a random act of kindness.
