It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Alan G. “Woody” Woodman on July 10, 2023. He was a man who lived his life to the fullest, was never afraid to take risks in business, and was a true embodiment of the American dream. He leaves behind a legacy of courage, devotion to family, and unwavering faith in God. Alan was the son of Arnold J and Rose E ( Feckter) Woodman. He was the beloved husband for 71 years to Claracele “Bunny” Woodman; devoted father of Steven Woodman and his wife Gerry, Bonnie Glennon and her husband Bill, Gregory Woodman and his wife Anita, Alicia Woodman and her husband Lester Stewart; loving grandfather of Travis Glennon and his wife Liz, Sean Glennon, Brian Glennon, Kyle Glennon and his wife Jessica, Lauren Mitchell and her husband Matt. Rachel Woodman and her husband Matt Johnson, Bradley Woodman, Joseph Woodman, Nathan Woodman, and Andrew Stewart; cherished great-grandfather of William and Drew Glennon, Penelope and Peter Glennon, Harper, and Thea Mitchell; dear brother of Malcolm Woodman and his wife Rosewitha; he is also survived by his brother-in-law Vincent Blum and his wife Katherine, and a host of loving nieces and nephews.
Alan was born in St Louis, MO, and as a child, he excelled in baseball, soccer, and track. He graduated from St. Louis University with a Bachelor of Science in Liberal Arts degree and went on to have a career in the pharmaceutical industry with companies Smith Kline, McKesson, and Mylan. In 1976, he founded PHARMAKINETICS Laboratories, Inc. and later took the company public.
A man of profound faith, Alan was a devoted Catholic, and his Jesuit values influenced every part of his life. His boundless love for his family was immeasurable, and he cherished every moment spent with his loved ones. He also had an unwavering love for America and believed deeply in the ideals upon which this great nation was built. He served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged as a 1st Lt USAF in 1961.
Alan’s zest for life was contagious — he was a natural ringmaster, host, and parade leader. With a birthday just one day after Independence Day, he enjoyed presiding over blowout parties to celebrate both occasions which included parades, and grandchildren's talent shows centered around his crystal-clear, PH-balanced pool parties. His legacy is his profound positive influence on his grandchildren.
He and his beloved wife “Bunny” took up horseracing and owned several thoroughbreds. They enjoyed cheering them on at Pimlico, Laurel, and Delaware Park. He was a Knights of Columbus member and he served as an usher at St John's Catholic Church for 30 years.
Alan was not afraid to take risks, whether in business or the horse track, and he taught others to live the same way. He was a galvanizing, enthusiastic champion of his four children. He encouraged them to live out the words of Rudyard Kipling’s poem “If” by living life to its fullest, taking risks, and above all, embodying HOPE.
The family will receive friends at St. Joseph Church at 8420 Belair Road, Nottingham, MD, on Friday, July 14, 2023, from 10:30 am until 11:00 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am. The interment will be in St. Joseph Church Cemetery.
