On August 30, 2026, Bonnie Lee (nee Short) Carter passed away, leaving behind a beautiful legacy of love, kindness, generosity, and countless cherished memories.

Bonnie was the devoted and loving mother of Tina Sutton and her husband Ron, Amanda Dolehanty and her husband Tim, Joshua Reese and his wife Stacey, Cascia Carter, and the late Jessica Reese. She was the proud and adoring grandmother of Devin Sutton, Corey Parham, Zoey Buta, Emerson Reese, Caroline Reese, Dakota Coleman, and Cashius Rideout. Bonnie was the cherished sister of Don Short and the late Connie Dahl. She was predeceased by her loving parents, Mitchell and Margaret (nee Taylor) Short. She is also survived by numerous loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever hold her close in their hearts.

Bonnie possessed an extraordinary capacity to love. She raised five children, two of whom were biologically hers and three whom she lovingly welcomed into her family and raised as her own. To Bonnie, there was never a distinction—each of her children was simply hers to love, nurture, protect, and encourage. She poured her whole heart into her family, and the love she gave so freely will remain one of the greatest gifts she leaves behind.

With her fun-loving personality and infectious spirit, Bonnie truly was the life of the party. She treasured her time in Ocean City, especially her stays at the Oceanic Hotel, where many wonderful memories were made. She enjoyed reading, relaxing by her backyard pool, spending time with those she loved, and simply enjoying life.

Bonnie had a remarkable ability to see the good in everyone she met. She was always willing to lend a helping hand, offer encouragement, or open her heart to someone in need. Children and animals seemed to instinctively recognize her gentle and loving nature and were naturally drawn to her wherever she went. Her compassion knew few boundaries, and she had a special place in her heart for anyone—or any animal—who needed love, comfort, or a place to belong.

Bonnie will be deeply missed by the many lives she touched. While her absence leaves an immeasurable void, the laughter she shared, the kindness she extended, the family she created, and the unconditional love she gave will live on through all who were fortunate enough to know and love her.

Funeral services and interment will be private. If desired, memorial contributions may be made in Bonnie’s memory to the American Cancer Society, a substance abuse treatment or recovery organization of your choice to help those seeking support and a path toward healing, or an animal shelter or rescue organization of your choice to help an animal in need find a safe and loving home.

Bonnie’s family extends their heartfelt appreciation for the tremendous outpouring of love, kindness, prayers, and support offered to them during this difficult time. Your compassion has brought great comfort and will always be remembered.
