On July 7, 2025, Charles Leonard Shoemaker peacefully passed away, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family.
Len was the beloved husband of 55 years to Arlene (nee Dobry) Shoemaker; a devoted and loving father to Joshua Shoemaker and his wife Stephanie, Stefan Shoemaker and his wife Barbara, and Jared Shoemaker and his wife Kristy. He was a proud and cherished grandfather to Madison, Hailey, Sawyer, Samantha, Joseph, and Monica.
He is lovingly remembered by his siblings, Anne Kluza and her husband Tony, Marvin Shoemaker and his wife Terry, and Carol Maciolek and her husband Michael; as well as his dear sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Susan Dobry, Carol Schoolnik and her husband Brett, and Irene Glass. Len is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Len led a distinguished military career, known for his vast knowledge, leadership, and his natural ability to connect with others through speaking. Frequently called upon to lead and organize important meetings, he was a gifted toastmaster, a compelling lecturer, and always ready with a thoughtful impromptu speech. He was a man of deep faith who proudly served his country and generously gave of his time and talents to support his community and church.
A voracious reader who could complete a book in a day, Len had an insatiable curiosity and love of learning. But above all, his greatest joy came from spending time with his family, whose love and laughter were the center of his world.
The family will receive friends at the E.F. Lassahn Funeral Home, P.A., 11750 Belair Road in Kingsville, on Saturday, July 12, 2025, from 3:00 to 5:00pm and 7:00 to 9:00pm, and again on Sunday, July 13, 2025, from 2:00 to 4:00pm and 7:00 to 9:00pm. A Christian Wake Service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 3:00pm.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 14, 2025, at 10:00am at St. Stephen Church, 8030 Bradshaw Road, Kingsville. Len will be laid to rest at Holly Hill Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to CurePSP at www.psp.org or Asylee Women Enterprise at www.asyleewomen.org, causes close to Lens’ heart.
The Shoemaker family is deeply grateful for the love, prayers, and support extended to them during this time. Len will be forever missed and lovingly remembered.
