Christina Virginia "Ginny" Class

Christina V. Class of White Hall, MD passed away Monday, August 15, 2022 after a hard-fought battle with breast cancer. She was the daughter of Wilbert J. Class and Dolores P. Class (nee Schneider).

Christina (Ginny or Tina as she was known), a 1976 graduate of Bel Air High School, grew up on a farmette in Fallston, MD and by the time she was five years old had developed a fierce love of horses, her life revolving around the equine world. Known for her fearlessness, Ginny was never one to turn away from trying something new. As a young rider she engaged in jousting and hunter-jumper competitions. She loved show jumping which led to steeple chasing and point-to-point races in her young adult life. To further understand steeple chasing Ginny lived in England for several months learning about the ways that they raised and trained their horses. After several years, she moved onto thoroughbred racing, working at both the Laurel and Pimlico race tracks. From there she turned to the world of dressage, which she loved so much that she began instructing others.

Aside from her love of horses, Ginny loved cats. She rarely said no to the cats that wandered in or were dropped off at Fair Play Farm where she worked. She fostered many of them, finding them homes throughout the surrounding areas, but quite a few also found their home at Fair Play Farm or her parents’ home in Fallston.

Many people may not know that Ginny was a fabulous artist and photographer. Her specialty was sketching horses (of course), other animals, and people with pen and pencil. She was also very good with painting landscapes. Additionally, Ginny excelled at baking and sewing. She even designed and made jockeys’ silks.

In her spare time Ginny enjoyed reading Agatha Christie novels, studying the Civil War and World War II, watching British television shows/movies, and listening to classical music. A fiercely loyal Baltimore sports fan, she loved the Ravens and Orioles. She studied football plays and knew just about every professional football rule and penalty, though she never found any Ravens players “guilty” of these during their games.

Ginny enjoyed spending time with her nephew and two nieces – taking them to Fair Play Farm, taking them to concerts or out to dinner, baking/cooking with them, teaching them about painting and drawing, attending dance recitals, and just genuinely enjoying their company. Ginny was extremely proud of all of their accomplishments.

Ginny was pre-deceased by both of her parents. She is survived by her siblings: Ed Class, Karen Bands and her husband Robert, and Holly Fisher and her husband John; her nephew, Stephen Bands and her two nieces, Kristen Fisher and Courtney Fisher; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Ginny is also survived by her closest companion, her Belgian Malinois, Wagner.

Per her wishes, services for Ginny will be held privately. Contributions in Ginny’s (Christina Class’s) memory may be sent to: The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust at sheldrickwildlifetrust.org or to Cancer LifeNet at The Kaufman Cancer Center at The Upper Chesapeake Health Foundation, 520 Upper Chesapeake Drive, Suite 405, Bel Air, MD 21014-4324 or to their website at uchfoundation.org.
