On September 16, 2014, Colonel, Retired Dennis Jackson Harron, USA, passed away, he served 30 years active duty. Jack grew up in Middle River and graduated from Kenwood High School with honors. His photo hangs in the hall of Kenwood as well as his Baseball Jersey hangs in the Gym as part of Kenwood’s Hall of Fame.
While attending Towson College in Baltimore his freshman year received his draft notice during the Korean War. He took basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO was reassigned to Ft. Benning later to attend Officer’s Candidate
School upon completion he was commissioned a 2/LT in the United States Army. He attained the rank of Full Colonel. After traveling all the world to include two tours in Vietnam and three tours in Europe he ended his career at Ft. Benning, GA as the Assistant Commander.
He and Jean lived in the home they purchased in Columbus, Georgia for 31 years finally downsizing in 2012 to a condo. He loved to travel.
He was helicopter and fixed wing qualified and still had a love of flying. He was an outstanding athlete all throughout his school years and even coached baseball as a 1/LT while in Aschaffenburg, Germany.
He played basketball up until he retired and ran five miles a day till he had his heart surgery in 1996.
Jack is survived by his wife Jean Overby, five daughters, Donna Lynn (Suni) McMath, (Robert P.) Kathryn Lear McConnell, (Col. (R) Scott), Kimberly Leigh Foxworth (Kenny), Karla Lorraine Lane (Tom), Karene Leslie Nebel (Glen). Jack and Jean had eleven grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.
A graveside service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later time.
