Edward Garson Johnson, 78, of Lutherville, Maryland, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, May 25, 2026 surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on August 29, 1947, Ed was the son of the late Evelyn R. Johnson and Nils F. Johnson. He was also preceded in death by his beloved son, Eric T. Johnson.
Ed married the love of his life, Louise (nee Hall) Johnson, on September 7, 1968, beginning a marriage filled with dedication, family, and lifelong partnership. Together they built a loving family and shared nearly 58 years together.
Along with his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Sarah L. Halford and her husband Andrew; and by his cherished grandchildren, Sophia, Eva and Elena, who brought him tremendous pride and joy.
Ed dedicated 34 years of service to the Baltimore Gas and Electric Company, where he built a respected career through hard work, knowledge, and integrity. Following his retirement from BGE, he founded Global Substation Services, Inc., serving as Owner and President until his retirement in 2018. Through his leadership, mentorship, and expertise, he built a company and reputation that continue to carry his influence today.
Outside of work, Ed had a passion for craftsmanship and the art of a well-built automobile, especially Porsches. He possessed the rare ability to rebuild them from the ground up with patience, precision, and pride. A true Marylander through and through, he loved being out on the water, catching blue crabs, and steaming them himself using his own special blend of seasonings. He was also a devoted Baltimore sports fan who faithfully cheered on his hometown teams, especially the Baltimore Orioles and Baltimore Ravens. He enjoyed good conversation, time with family and friends, and a fine glass of scotch.
Ed will be remembered for his intelligence, strong work ethic, mechanical talent, quiet generosity, and unwavering devotion to his family. His presence, wisdom, and stories will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Defenders of Animal Rights.
Services and interment will be private
