ENDEL PAPPEL
1925-2019
Endel Pappel was born on September 9, 1925 in Viimsi, Estonia to August Pappel and Maria Teenus. He left Estonia as a young man to fight in the Finnish Army during World War II, and was given a citation for his service many years later by the government of Finland.
Working as a merchant seaman after the war, he emigrated to the United States and made his home in Baltimore. Endel proudly served in the U.S. Army and became a United States citizen. His favorite expression was "That's America."
Endel corresponded with a childhood friend, Luule Piiskop, whom he had become acquainted with when she would visit her uncle who lived on the farm next to Endel's family. Luule had emigrated to Buenos Aries, Argentina and was working as a nurse. He convinced her to visit the U.S., and they were married on May 1, 1958. They were devoted to each other until Luule's death in March.
