On April 11, 2014, ETHEL JANE SCALIA née Kussel, loving wife of the late Samuel P. Scalia for 55 years. Daughter of Alfred T. Kussel and Anna May Kussel née Waldron,

Ethel is survived by: sister, Edith Stinemates of La Jolla, CA; brother, Thomas Kussel, of Lakeland, Florida; daughter, Jane Scalia Hershberg of Jerusalem, Israel; son, Philip Scalia of Cherry Valley, NY; daughter, Geraldine Scalia of New York City; son, Michael Scalia of Reston, Virginia; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Ethel grew up in Bronx, New York. She earned a nursing degree from Fordham University, married Samuel P. Scalia in 1947; the couple moved to Baltimore in 1949 where Samuel practiced medicine and Ethel became a nurse and homemaker, raising four children.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, April 25, 2014, at 11 a.m., at the chapel in town center, Oak Crest Village, Parkville, MD. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Doctors Without Borders.
