Francis William Baummer

Francis (Frank) W. Baummer, ten days short of his 90th birthday, passed away peacefully with family by his side, on December 29, 2020. Frank was born in 1931 in Baltimore’s Hamilton neighborhood. Prior to starting school his family traded the creature comforts of the city for an outhouse and wood stove in Franklinville in rural Baltimore County. After marriage and a brief residence in Upper Falls, Frank relocated to his final home in Bradshaw. Frank attended grade and high school at St. Stephen’s Catholic School. After an initial stint as a plasterer for Holter & Winkler Company, Frank went on to work 40+ years at the Bell Telephone Company where he never missed a day of work. Frank was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, a service organization. He was a United States Marine Corps Veteran. Drafted during the Korean War, he served as an aircraft engine mechanic, obtained the rank of sergeant, and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. He was a parishioner of St. Stephen Catholic Church his entire life and spent over a decade mowing the church’s grounds. Frank was happiest spending time with family, eating, watching Western TV shows, and cheering on the Ravens and Orioles. Frank was beloved by all who knew him. He is survived by his 5 children: Philip and wife Joan, Mary Anne Mace and husband Carville, Margaret Malia and husband Thomas, Elizabeth Knop and husband Brian, and Vincent. He leaves behind 10 grandchildren: Elizabeth and Abigail Baummer; Carville Jr., Caroline, and Meredith Mace; Margaret and Michael Malia; and Frances, Ruby and John Knop. Frank was preceded in death by a grandson, William Mace, in 1998 and by his cherished wife of 46 years, Margaret “Chippy” (née Muller), in 2005.
