Greg’s Ride
Greg’s hometown, Overlea Fullerton, is in the fabric of Greg’s soul. Even as life at times took him out of Overlea, Overlea was never taken out of him. He was so proud of where he was from, and Overlea gave him some of the most memorable times, friends, and family in his life.
Following his birth at Charleston Naval Hospital, Greg’s family relocated from Charleston to Baltimore, where his father was reassigned. As a baby on the trip, legend has it that he made the ride in a dresser drawer on the back seat in the family car.
Greg’s childhood was spent on Willow Avenue with his Mother, Dorothy; Father, George; Sister, Mary; and Brother, Richard. Many of his lifelong friends lived in the surrounding neighborhood. He attended grade school at St. Michael the Archangel, and High School at Overlea High School. He met many more lifelong friends and the mother of his children, Vicki, and her family at this time. He lived here as he completed college across three different schools, and began his professional career at the Baltimore Sun Newspaper.
He started a family while living on Mawani Road, welcoming his first-born, Adam.
As a young family, he, Vicki, and Adam moved to Daybreak Terrace, where they grew their family, welcoming Alex.
After a few years in Kingsville and Rosedale, Greg purchased his house on Willowdale Avenue; this time, Greg, Adam, Alex, and his youngest child, Kelly, moved in together. Greg resided here for 25 years, with all of his children spending their high school years with him in this house. He spent his final years being cared for by his beloved daughter Kelly and her family at their house in Sykesville.
Decades ago, Greg told his son Adam that after he passed, he wanted to be driven through Overlea one final time, say goodbye to and celebrate his cherished neighborhood, while listening to The Who, Baba O Riley.
It was Greg’s wish that we listen to a few of his favorite jams while we take him on one final ride through his cherished hometown to his final resting place.
