James Joseph "Jim" Schap

On April 27, 2025, James “Jim” Joseph Schap peacefully passed away, surrounded by the love of his family. He was the beloved husband of 47 years to Mary Jo (née Ciesielski) Schap; the loving father of Elizabeth Schap and Laura Britton and her husband, Kristopher; and the cherished grandfather of Mason and Emory Britton. Jim was the dear brother of Kathleen Gowl and her husband, Richard, and Victoria Schab and her late husband, Theodore. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Jack Ciesielski, and his wife, Maureen, along with numerous loving nieces and nephews.

Jim was a kind and joyful soul who brought laughter and warmth to those around him. He adored his grandchildren, had a passion for gardening and animals, and was an avid reader with a deep love for history and military history. Jim also enjoyed theatre, traveling, and embracing life’s many adventures with enthusiasm and curiosity.

A memorial service celebrating Jim’s life will be held at a later date. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Jim’s memory may make contributions to Semper K9 Assistance Dogs (www.semperk9.org), a cause dear to his heart.
