On October 17, 2024, Jo-Ann Weber (nee Mullican) passed away peacefully, surrounded by her
family. Jo-Ann was born on July 26, 1947 in Ellicott City, Maryland, to Jean and Maxine Mullican.
The fifth of six children, she attended Howard High School and was an active member of her local
4-H club, through which she met her future husband, Stephen (Steve) L. Weber.
Jo-Ann graduated from University of Maryland College Park with a degree in Elementary
Education. She taught at Red House Run Elementary School and earned a Master’s degree in
Elementary Education from Johns Hopkins University. After the birth of their second child, Jo-Ann
left teaching to raise her children and support the family’s farming operation, Weber’s Cider Mill
Farm.
Jo-Ann partnered with Steve as co-owner and operator of Weber’s Farm for almost 50 years. Jo-Ann
managed day-to-day operations, including marketing and hiring, helped build the business to include
a bakery and gift shop, and helped grow the farm’s renowned Fall Harvest Days. Jo-Ann was the
first employer for hundreds of local young people during her years at the farm. She retired in 2020
to spend time with her children and grandchildren.
Jo-Ann and Steve raised four children. Jo-Ann was involved with PTSA at Pine Grove Elementary
and Middle Schools and Loch Raven High School. Once her children were grown, Jo-Ann and Steve
traveled extensively, including to Mexico, Italy, Peru, Greece, Australia, and New Zealand, to name a
few.
Among her many accomplishments, Jo-Ann served as President of the Maryland Direct Farm
Market Association and on the board of the Maryland Agricultural Land Preservation Foundation.
She was a member of the local Road Runners Club.
Jo-Ann is survived by her husband, Steve, their children Amy Weber and her husband Peter
VanMaasdam, Sara Herweck and her husband Matt, Stephen Weber Jr. and his wife Megan, and
Kathryn Poe and her husband Andy; and their grandchildren Jacob, Abigail, Samuel, Wolfgang and
