John Marshall Dent Sr.

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of John Marshall Dent, Sr., who left this world on March 6, 2025. He was the devoted son of the late Walter Pinkney Dent, Jr. and Margaret (née Pierce) Dent, a beloved father to John Marshall Dent, Jr. and Kelli Ann (née Dent) Moss and her husband, Geoffrey. He was a cherished grandfather to John “Jack” Marshall Dent, III, Jacob Dent, Robert Moss, Jedidiah Dent, Joanna Dent, Josephine Dent, and Madison Moss.

John was a loving brother to Winifred Dent Pierce, Anayezuka Ahidiana (a.k.a. Margaret “Peggy” Pierce Dent), and Walter P. Dent, III. He is also survived by his former wife, Janet Dent, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will forever hold him in their hearts.

A man of many passions, John found joy in baseball, especially cheering for the Yankees and in particular, Mickey Mantle, and had a deep appreciation for Elvis Presley’s music in his younger years and gospel music in the latter half of his life. His faith was important to him, and he spent time studying the Bible. John had a special love for cats and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Above all, he was devoted to his family, always ensuring they knew they were loved and cared for.

Family and friends are invited to gather at the E.F. Lassahn Funeral Home, P.A., 11750 Belair Road in Kingsville on Thursday, March 13, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with funeral services beginning at 12:00 PM. Interment will follow at Parkwood Cemetery.

The family deeply appreciates the kindness, prayers, and support offered during this difficult time. John’s warmth, generosity, and love will be profoundly missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
