Katherine Lynn ‘Katie’ Hack, age 28, passed away on Thursday October 22, 2020. She is survived by her parents, Elmer H. Hack Sr. and Patricia A. ‘Patti’ Hack (nee Koegel), her brother, Elmer H. ‘JR’ Hack Jr. and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She was born in Baltimore and raised in Kingsville, MD.
Sadly, Katie passed away from a suspected accidental drug overdose ending her long battle with addiction.
Katie grew up as a very wholesome, smart, feisty, ‘tom boy’ country girl with her long blond swinging pony tail on a small family farm with her parents and brother. Being very strong willed she never passed up an opportunity to voice her opinion even as a small child. She and her brother diligently helped run a flowering perennial plant nursery stock business by planting cuttings, weeding, watering, riding on deliveries, loading and unloading truckloads of potted plants. At about age nine she easily completed the Hunters Safety Course and wearing her usual camo clothes accompanied her father and grandfather on many deer and goose hunting outings, getting her first deer and goose at around age 11 and enjoyed target shooting being an excellent shot with her shotgun. She loved her exciting rock fishing trips, fearlessly riding her four wheeler, kayaking, and many fun family vacations. As a very bright student, after skipping her Junior year, Katie was a 2009 grad of Perry Hall High School, received her AA degree with honors in Elementary Education from Community College of Baltimore County and continued her studies at Towson University where she was a few credits short of completing a dual major in Health. She had a very promising future but along the way the ugly disease of drug addiction progressively hindered her progress. It was a very scary six year journey of ups and downs for Katie and her family including drug possession arrests, court hearings, numerous rehabs, recovery houses, jail time, sober periods, relapses and accidental overdoses that she recovered from.
Sadly, this time Katie could not be revived. Beautiful, vibrant Katie is at peace now and does not have to chase that awful drug demon any longer. Katie had a huge heart, always smiling, loved her friends and family immensely and will be greatly missed.
In supporting her through this journey her family struggled with the fine line between helping and enabling.
Her family is forever grateful to all who treated, counseled and guided Katie on her path to recovery including Phoenix Recovery Center, Char Hope Foundation, Rage Against Addiction, Addiction Connections Resource/ACR and her devoted sponsor, Bethany.
