Lawrence "Larry" Charles Betzler, age 93, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at Stella Maris, Timonium, Maryland.

He was born May 2, 1933, in Overland, Missouri, to the late William Henry Betzler and Mabel Elenor Craft.

He is survived by his life partner, Marguerite Lobb of Baltimore, Maryland. One sister, Jean Kidwell of Palmyra, Virginia. Two daughters, Lauren Betzler (Jiri Pavek) of Rye, Colorado, and Teresa Betzler of Nashville, Tennessee. Three bonus children: Reverend Mark Lobb (Sharon) of Perry Hall, Maryland; Stacey Bell (Kurt) of Wheeling, West Virginia; and Mindi Lassiter (Tom) of Baltimore, Maryland. Eight grandchildren: Tristan, Naomi and Isabelle Stevens of Colorado, Deanna and Ryan Lassiter of Baltimore, Maryland, Amelia Bell of Wheeling, West Virginia, and Katie Crum (Pete) and Emily Lobb of Virginia.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Betzler, and brothers Robert (Bob) and John (Jack), and sisters Audrey Capone, Marilyn Cronan, and Ann Betzler.

A proud veteran of the United States Army, Larry respected all branches of the military. Larry earned his GED at Emerson Institute in Washington, DC, in 1951. He attended the American University in Washington, DC, where he received his bachelor's degree in business. Over the years, he completed law courses at the University of Baltimore, real estate at Dundalk Community College, data processing at Hopkins University, and, at 85, Spanish at Harford Community College.

In 1981, he served as president of Parents Without Partners until 1983, when he also met the second love of his life, Marguerite, and they formed a union that lasted until his death. Amongst other notable accomplishments, he served as the local secretary of Maryland Mensa, joining in 1978. Some people in his family coined the phrase " before Google there was Larry," a true testament to his invaluable knowledge. Throughout life, Larry was an entrepreneur. At various times, he held positions as a stockbroker, healthcare executive for Church Home Hospital, proprietor of a grocery store on Kavon Ave in Baltimore City, a co-owner of a travel agency in Bethesda, Maryland, proprietor of American Soyfood Company, Auctioneer Associates, and lastly Uncle Larry's Library, all in Baltimore, Maryland. Larry never stopped working until the age of 90, when, for health reasons, he could no longer keep the pace.

Larry became involved in every organization he joined. He once organized a citizens committee to buy the Baltimore Orioles. At American University, he was president of several clubs, including Student Government and the Newman Club. In the Army, he was a "gung ho" draftee who graduated at the top of each school from basic training on up.

Larry was a voracious reader, a collector of all things, self-taught, enjoyed traveling the world, and a tinkerer with all kinds of toys. He lived a life of adventures with stories to share. He will always be remembered as a giver, entrepreneur, and, to many, “Larry,” “Mr. Larry,” “Grampy" “Grandpa Larry,” and “Pops.” He will be missed, and his memory will live on.

A celebration of life will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 11901 Belair Road, Kingsville, MD on Saturday October 10, 2026 at 11:00 a.m.. Reception to follow.
