The family of Lodovica Barbara Hilbert would like to inform friends and family members that Barbara passed away peacefully on August 6, 2015 in the Senator Bob Hooper House. Barbara was born on June 12, 1931 in Altoona, Pennsylvania. She married Robert Hilbert in August 1954 and together they lived 61 happy and devoted years together. Barbara became the caring, nurturing mother of five grateful children and their spouses, Stephen and Jill, David and Jan, Rose, John and Andre, and Lisa Hilbert. Over the years Barbara took great joy in her nine grandchildren, Jessica, Aaron (RIP), Emma, Max, Anna, Matthew, Mark, Rachel, and Maria.
Barbara devoted her life to raising and guiding her children. Her own mother died when Barbara was just six months old. Thus, her greatest gift to her children was becoming the mother she never knew. Her first four children grew up, established loving families, rewarding careers and good lives. Yet Barbara’s greatest challenge and accomplishment was her fifth and last child Lisa who was born with a severe mental disability. For years Barbara and Bob fought for more and better educational programs for children like Lisa and shepherded her through special schools and work programs. They raised and nurtured Lisa at home for 35 years until she moved into an assisted living home where she lives happily today.
We will remember Barbara as a woman of deep heartfelt faith who gave life to her beliefs through her life of service to family and friends. We will always remember her hospitality, home cooking and holiday season treats. We will miss her dearly while celebrating the many gifts and loving, warm memories that she left us.
May her soul and the soul of all the faithfully departed through the mercy of God rest in eternal peace.
The family will receive friends at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church 13305 Long Green Pike Hydes, Md. on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 from 9:30am until 10:30am, at which time a Mass of Christian Burial will begin. Interment St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church Cemetery.
