Margaret Elizabeth Gingher (Bands)

Margaret Elizabeth Gingher (nee Bands), 96, passed peacefully surrounded by family at her home of 65 years, in Kingsville, Maryland.

Born in Clairton, Pennsylvania into a large family of eventually eight children, she moved to Dundalk in her early childood after several family members started working at Bethlehem Steel. It was through her brothers that she met her future husband, Samuel Gingher, whom she married in June 1949 and treasured until his passing in May 2004.

Moving to Kingsville in 1957, Margaret began to pursue her passion for the arts. While raising her six children, she opened a ceramic store in Perry Hall named, “Meg’s Ceramics”, which she owned and operated for many years and where she began honing her talent for painting. After selling the store, she concentrated her focus on the art of China painting and quickly became a respected and sought-after master painter. Margaret was a founding member of the China Painting Artists of Maryland where she served as President and Treasurer for many years. She opened a home studio, providing lessons and training to others in China painting. She won several juried art shows and especially liked competing in the Maryland State Fair, where she consistently took home first place and best-in-category ribbons.

Art was her passion, but her children were her finest and most loved creations. She was blessed to be the mother of six children, grandmother to ten, and great grandmother to an entire passel. Her home on Juniper Road was filled with life and laughter! Her door was open both literally and figuratively to family and friends, and it was a rare moment in time that someone was not staying at her home. To her family and friends, Margaret epitomized the art of hospitality, good manners, direct conversation, and hard work.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Gingher; her son Grant Gingher; her beloved siblings: Lewis, Arnie, Chuck, Jack, Bob, and Roy Bands, and sister, Ava Usher. She leaves behind her children: Roy Gingher (partner Ana); Consuela Miller (George); Christopher Gingher (Lori); Mary Margaret Harper (Rick); and Monica Rau (Toby). Her grandchildren: Michael Grogan (Lisa); Amee Gingher; Louis Gingher (Cassie); Adam Gingher (Kelly), Richard Harper; Lauren Williams (Keith); Gretchen Mosher (Charlie); Abigail Rau; Maddie Rau; and Samuel Rau. Also survived by 8 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
