Maria Patricia (née Romagnoli) Carson peacefully passed away on April 6, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Maria was the beloved wife of 53 years to John R. Carson; a devoted and loving mother of M. Teresa Propst and her husband Anthony, and Jean Carson and her fiancé Andrew Mabry; cherished grandmother of Xav and Rian Propst, and Grace and Marianne Kreiner. She was the dear sister of Angela Lombardi and her late husband Francis, Theresa Ianacone and her husband Robert, and John Romagnoli and his wife Sandy. She is also survived by her in-laws, Dolores Clancy, Thomas Carson and his wife Dawn, along with numerous loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Maria and John’s love story was truly one of a kind. They met on a beautiful beach in North Carolina June of 1969—Maria serving as a nun and John as a priest—and from that moment, their lives were forever intertwined. Their love, rooted in faith and devotion, blossomed into a remarkable 53-year marriage filled with joy, partnership, and deep compassion.
Maria dedicated part of her professional life to serving others as a special education teacher with Baltimore City Public Schools, where she made a meaningful difference in the lives of her students. She later devoted herself wholeheartedly to raising her daughters, creating a home filled with warmth, kindness, and unwavering love. When her children were older, Maria returned to the workforce as a welcoming and friendly receptionist at The United States Pharmacopeia (USP) in Rockville, Maryland. In retirement, she and John enjoyed their time together in Florida.
A woman of deep faith, Maria was spiritual, patient, and gentle. She had a gift for making others feel welcome and valued—whether it was neighbors, friends, or the many children who gathered at her home, where laughter and kindness were always abundant. She found joy in knitting and creating beautiful jewelry, sharing her talents and love through the things she made.
Maria’s kind, gentle, and loving spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but her legacy of faith, compassion, and warmth will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
Funeral services and interment will be held privately. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Maria’s memory to Habitat for Humanity
The family sincerely appreciates the prayers, love, and support offered to them during this difficult time.
