Mary Elizabeth Byrne (née McLain) passed away in tranquility, surrounded by her loving family, on December 9, 2023. Mary, a cherished wife to Johnny Byrne for 65 remarkable years, leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. She was a dedicated mother to Cheri Johns and her husband, Rick, John Byrne, and Daniel Byrne and his wife, Megan. Her role as a loving grandmother was embraced by Ryan Joubert and his husband, Kenny, Samantha Brown and her husband, Brian, Brittany Bemis and her husband, Bobby, Shawn Byrne, Skylar Byrne, and the late Brandon Johns. Mary's warmth extended to her great-grandchildren, Parker Johns-Renna, Emily Bemis, Madison Bemis, and Elizabeth Brown, as a cherished great-grandmother.
She is also remembered by her sisters-in-law, Donna Muller and her late husband, Jack and Sandy Barstow and her husband, Doc, along with her niece, Cora Baldwin, and nephew, William Muller. Her cousin Rita Saylor and close friends Susan Derlunas and Myrna Sunderland also mourn her passing.
Mary was a passionate and active participant in her community, dedicating her time and energy to various local organizations. She was an enthusiastic member of the 4H Club, where she engaged in numerous community service and educational activities. Her commitment to community also shone through her involvement with the Homemakers of Harford County, contributing to their mission of fostering family and community well-being. Additionally, Mary played a vital role in the Joppa Magnolia Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, supporting the fire department and its community efforts. Her devotion also extended to her spiritual community as a member of the Women of Union Chapel United Methodist Church, participating in various church activities and initiatives. Mary's involvement in these organizations reflected her dedication to service and her deep love for her community.
Friends and family are invited to gather and share memories at the E. F. Lassahn Funeral Home, P.A., 11750 Belair Road in Kingsville on Sunday, December 17, 2023 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Additional visitation will take place at Union Chapel United Methodist Church in Joppa on Monday, December 18, 2023 from 10:00 am until the start of the funeral service at 11:00 am. Following the service, Mary will be laid to rest at Union Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, leaving a lasting legacy of love and cherished memories.
