Mary (nee Noppenberger) Pistritto peacefully passed away on May 5, 2024. She was the cherished wife of the late Joseph Vincent Pistritto for 57 wonderful years, a devoted mother to Joseph Charles Pistritto, and a beloved grandmother to Alexander M. Pistritto and Christopher M. Pistritto. Mary is also survived by her dear brother, Andrew Noppenberger and his wife Kathleen, along with several loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving parents, Charles and Audrey (nee Roe) Noppenberger.
A proud graduate of Towson University, Mary earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education from what was then Maryland State Teachers College at Towson. She began her teaching career in the Baltimore City Public Schools and, after a brief hiatus following the birth of her son, returned to full-time teaching in 1970 in the Baltimore County Public Schools. Mary devoted herself to teaching mostly 2nd grade until her retirement in 1999.
In retirement, Mary's adventures took her to many places around the world including: India, England, Scotland, Germany, France, Italy, and exploring the United States. She remained active in her community, volunteering at the Jacksonville Senior Center for many years. There, she served as a past president, treasurer and front desk receptionist, ran Bingo games for over two decades, and was involved in the Christmas train garden, a project that also captured her husband's dedication. Her artistic talent also shone through in her ceramics work.
Mary and Joseph's legacy continues to be celebrated in the Jacksonville Senior Center train garden, where they are immortalized as customers in the McDonald's model, sitting inside the windows.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Mary at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church on Monday, May 20, 2024, at 10:00am. Visitation will be at the E.F.
