Mary Elizabeth Ratliff Taylor died Sunday April 1, 2012, at age 92 following a long illness. Mary, as she was known to one side of the family, and Libby, as she was known to the other, was born in Gem, W. Va. on December 27, 1919. She was the eldest of six children, two boys and four girls, born to Jack and Retha Ratliff. She moved to Baltimore with her husband, Clinton R. Taylor, where their one child, Peggy Sue, died during infancy. As a couple, they launched multiple business ventures over the years including gas stations, convenience stores, an ice cream store, and a laundromat.
The deceased is survived by two sisters, Jane Ratliff and Mae Younce, eight nephews, four nieces and numerous great nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by two brothers, one sister, and her husband of 57 years, Clinton. At her death, she was a loyal member of Fork United Methodist Church. She will be remembered for her spirited independence, determination, and ever sharp memory.
At the deceased’s request, there will be no memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to Fork United Methodist Church, 12800 Fork Rd., Fork, MD 21051.
