Phyllis Jean Shanklin (Hamilton)

Phyllis Jean Shanklin returned to her Heavenly Father on Friday, July 26, 2013 surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Phyllis was born on November 19, 1946 in Ogden UT- daughter of Emily and Frank Hamilton. She married the love of her life, David Shanklin on August 24, 1968. Phyllis and Dave raised 15 children and were foster parents for several decades. Shawn (Joella), Sheila (Charles), Tammy (Steve), Alan (Lisa), Earl (2007), Dawn (Jeff), Cindy (Bob), Patty (Matt), Roger, Richard (2007), Nicole, Chris (Ashley), Michael, Mary, and Charity (Art). She was an amazing mother and found incredible joy in 41 grandchildren. Phyllis was always supporting and encouraging her husband and children in their many different activities and endeavors. She taught her children the value of hard work, teaching them skills they used with their own families. Her talents included sewing, quilting , cake decorating, cooking, sketching, doodling, canning, thrift shopping, journal writing, hosting parties and serving those in need. Phyllis was an example to all of Christ like love and charity. She faithfully served in church callings as Relief Society President, Primary President, Family History Center and countless dinners for the missionaries.

Viewing is Tuesday, July 30th, from 3-5 and 7-9pm at the Lassahn Funeral Home, 7401 Belair Road (Overlea). Additional viewing Wednesday, July 31, at 1pm in the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints, 120 Stemmers Run Road (Essex). Funeral Service will follow at 2pm.Interment Moreland Memorial Park.
