Robert Edward Lee Shoul, Jr., affectionately known as “Bob” or “Bobby Lee” to many and “Bob Bob” by his granddaughters, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 2, 2026, at the age of 71.

Born on May 16, 1955, Bob was the son of the late Robert and Mabelle Shoul. He grew up in Owings Mills and was a proud graduate of Calvert Hall College High School, where he remained a loyal Cardinal throughout his life.

Bob’s early years were filled with the experiences that helped shape the man he became. He attended Sacred Heart of Glyndon, where he served as an altar boy, and was an active Boy Scout who looked forward to camping at Broad Creek every summer. He carried with him throughout his life a deep appreciation for family, community, and the importance of showing up for the people he loved.

Bob met the love of his life, Marlene Suzanne Densmore, while they were both working for Baltimore County Government. Marlene was a kind and gentle woman, and the two built a life together centered around family. After they married, they moved to Towson, where they made their home and raised their son, Matthew (Matt). Marlene remained the love of Bob’s life, and her memory continued to hold a special place in his heart. She preceded him in death.

Bob enjoyed a long and fulfilling career as an automotive mechanic with Baltimore County, where he retired after a 22-year career.

After his son Matt was born, Bob loved nothing more than spending time with him. Whether they were taking long bike rides on the NCR Trail, traveling on the Gold Wing, attending minor league sporting events around Baltimore, or visiting car and tractor shows from Carlisle to Arcadia, Bob eagerly embraced every adventure with Matt. In more recent years, they built a Natty Boh collection, talked about that week’s Arsenal game, and constantly swapped pictures of the projects they were working on.

During Matt’s youth, Bob found a new passion: youth sports and coaching. He began volunteering with Kelly Post Lacrosse, eventually continuing his coaching career with the Towson High School boys lacrosse program, where he coached both junior varsity and varsity players. Coaching was never simply about the game for Bob. He cared about the kids, encouraged them, supported them, and took genuine pride in watching them grow. He positively impacted the lives of countless young athletes in Towson.

Bob loved being there for his family and was rarely far from a sporting event, dance recital, or activity involving one of his nieces, nephews, or grandchildren. He could often be found on the sidelines or in the stands, cheering someone on. Supporting the people he loved was simply who Bob was.

His love of working with his hands and caring for others eventually led to a second career as head groundskeeper at North Oaks Retirement Community. Bob took enormous pride in maintaining the community’s beautiful 200-acre property. He cared about the details and loved seeing the grounds looking their best.

His greatest joys in recent years were his granddaughters, Emily and Abby. He was their Bob Bob, and they brought an immeasurable amount of happiness and pride to his life. Bob loved watching them grow and never missed an opportunity to tell people how proud and happy they made him.

Some of his favorite times were simple ones: Wednesday dinners with Matt, Brittany, Emily, and Abby; watching the girls grow into their own personalities; attending family activities; and spending time with the people he loved most.

Bob had an amazing sense of humor and was always ready with a joke. He was a great storyteller, had a big personality, and had a way of making his presence known. He was generous, kind, funny, and fiercely devoted to his family. Despite facing many medical challenges throughout his life, Bob continued to find reasons to laugh and show up for those he loved.

Bob is survived by his beloved son, Matthew Shoul; daughter-in-law, Brittany (Sullivan) Shoul; and his beautiful granddaughters, Emily Marlene Shoul and Abigail Catherine Shoul.

He is also survived by his loving siblings, Regina Howes, Kathleen Zilonis, Bonnie Densmore, Linda Densmore, and Robert Densmore, and their spouses, Steve Zilonis and Paula Densmore; nieces and nephews Melissa Long, Jennifer Slaybaugh, Laura Steiner, Ricky Howes, Allison Zilonis, Madelyn Zilonis, and Lily Densmore; as well as many cousins, aunts, uncles, and extended family members who loved him dearly.

In addition to his parents, Robert and Mabelle Shoul, Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marlene Suzanne Densmore; his mother- and father-in-law, Ruth and Frank Densmore; and his brother-in-law, Richard Howes.

Bob lived a life filled with family, friendship, laughter, sports, service, and love. He was the person who showed up. He cheered from the sidelines. He told the stories. He made people laugh. And he made sure the people he loved knew just how proud he was of them.

Family and friends are invited to gather at the Lassahn Funeral Home, Inc., 7401 Belair Road in Overlea, on Thursday, October 8, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, October 9, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Following the service, Bob will be laid to rest at Parkwood Cemetery.
