Robert John Buchanan

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Robert John Buchanan on October 3, 2024. Robert was the beloved son of the late John James Buchanan and Florence Christine (née Aubil) Buchanan. He was a devoted brother to Dale Buchanan, Donald Buchanan and his wife Diane, and David Buchanan and his wife Michelle Ryan. Robert was also a cherished uncle to Wendy Ethier and her husband Justin, Heidi Tracey and her husband Matthew, and Abby Buchanan.

A scholar and a man of deep faith, Robert graduated cum laude from the University of Maryland and went on to dedicate his career to helping others. He served as a counselor at Towson State University, a librarian at both Johns Hopkins University and Loyola College, and a minister at Hampden Presbyterian Church. His love for reading and history was evident throughout his life.

The family will receive friends to honor Robert’s life at the Lassahn Funeral Home, Inc., located at 7401 Belair Road in Overlea, on Monday, October 21, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with funeral services to follow at 12:00 p.m. Robert will be laid to rest beside his parents at Moreland Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions be made to organizations that were meaningful to Robert and his family: the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org), United Way (www.unitedway.org), American Red Cross (www.redcross.org), National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) (www.nami.org), or Sheppard Pratt (www.sheppardpratt.org).

The family deeply appreciates the outpouring of prayers, love, and support during this difficult time. Robert will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
