Ruth S. Horstman (Slade)

Ruth Slade Horstman, 95, went home to be with the Lord on August 18, 2013, at home at the Glen at Willow Valley Retirement Community in Willow Street, Penn. Daughter of the late Ruby Zoller and Dennis Albert Slade and beloved wife of Douglas Ford Horstman (d. 1989); loving mother of Trudi Klug (Wil) of Baltimore, Doug Jr. of Christiansburg, Becki Proctor (Ed) of Towson, and Deni (Rod Keen) of Cleveland; devoted grandmother of Cindy Stewart (the Rev. Aaron) of Baltimore, Ami Proctor of Joppa, and Carrie Slothour (Wayne) of Dillsburg, Penn.; stepgrandmother of Paul (Kathleen) and Stephen Keen; greatgrandmother of Melody, Jasmine, Alyson, Jade, Collin, Ivy, Rebeka, Willow, Carson, and Harper; and stepgreatgrandmother of Coty, Taryn, and Caroline. Though Ruth’s own memories were clouded by dementia (except for her vast repertoire of old songs and poems), we remember this child of God for her marathons of cookie baking, her decades of Sunday school teaching, her skill at sewing and stitching, her enjoyment of the Willow Valley bowling league, her love for her grandchildren and her grandpets, and her ever-present crossword puzzles.

Visiting at the Lassahn Funeral Home, Inc., 7401 Belair Road (Overlea) on Thursday, August 22, 2013, 2-5 & 7-9 pm. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, August 23, 2013, at 11 am. Interment Parkwood Cemetery.
