Sandra Jean Strempek (Lewandowski)

On February 26, 2017 Sandra J. Slate Stempek, (nee Lewandowski), passed away peacefully in the presence of her family. She was a loving mother, devoted wife and a caring sister. Born July 15, 1941, she was the third daughter born to the late John Lewandowski and the late Evelyn Alice Knauff. Sandra is survived by her husband of 37 years, Richard Strempek. Two daughters, Lorri Rae Roughton and husband Randy and Nicole Diem and husband Jeff and a son Shannon Slate, a sister and a brother Sue Weidman and husband Jim and John Lewandowski and wife Diane, the late Janet George and husband Louie and the late Penny Zurich and husband Steve. She will be dearly missed by her 9 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and her fur baby Simone.

Born in Baltimore City, she spent her childhood in Canonsburg, PA. returning to Baltimore in her twenties. Trained as a beautician she did hair for more than 40 years. She owned two beauty salons; one in Highlandtown and the other in Dundalk. After retirement she continued to do hair from her home salon. Her fellow stylists and customers were lifelong friends and extended family.

A wonderful cook and gracious hostess she loved to entertain family and friends. From pool parties to elegant holiday dinners she always made sure everyone felt welcome. She was a self- taught pianist who enjoyed playing show tunes. An avid scrabble player she loved to win using two letter words. She was a gifted seamstress and she sewed many of her grandchildren’s clothes. She enjoyed antiquing and DIY projects involving her home. She created meticulous needlepoint crafts and it was rare to see her without a book. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Visiting at the Lassahn Funeral Home, Inc., 7401 Belair Road (Overlea) on Wednesday, March1, 2017, from 3-5 and 7-9 pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, March 2, 2017, at 11 am. Interment Gardens of Faith Cemetery.
