It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Susan J. Thompson of Bel Air, MD on June 19, 2025 after a long battle with cancer. Born on April 30, 1952 in Baltimore, MD she was the beloved daughter of the late Gilbert and Jeanne (nee Miller) Thompson, adored sister of Bonnie Williams and the late Ellen Thompson, and loving cousin Debbie Thompson.
Sue was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. She nourished her communities with joy, humor, compassion, dedication, and steadfast stewardship wherever she went with her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Savior. For those that encountered her beautiful, infectious positivity and humor, you are left with an indelible mark on your soul. She was a force to be reckoned with.
In addition to her mission of altruism, Sue held the highest esteem for education. She was heavily involved in her church community, Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church of Joppa, MD, and was retired from Baltimore County Public School system with 30 years of dedicated service. Sue earned a Bachelor's in Human Services from Notre Dame of Maryland in 1986, a Master's in Religious Studies St Mary's Seminary (Ecumenical Institute) in 1995 and held an accreditation from Princeton University in 2005 as a Certified Christian Educator PCUSA. She graduated from Perry Hall High School in 1970 and attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Christian Day School in Kingsville, MD during her childhood.
Sue is survived by her loving sister and her husband, Bonnie and Donald Williams. In addition, she leaves behind nephews, Brian and Jonathan Williams, great-nephew, Ethan Williams, and great-niece Faith Williams. She was predeceased by her dearest parents, Gilbert and Jeanne Thompson, loving sister, Ellen Thompson, and nephew, Timothy Williams.
We ask that you not remember the way in which Sue passed, but the way that she impacted your life and helped shape your character. This is the proudest and most accomplished achievement that a person can leave behind. May her path, in which crossed yours, have helped or nudged you into the arms of Jesus whom she is now rejoicing with a renewed body and spirit.
The family wishes to sincerely thank her dearly devoted friends Vicki Maas, Chris Bohns and Gail Wronowski for all their help taking Sue to chemo treatments and doctor appointments. We also wish to thank the Senator Bob Hooper House for their outstanding and singular hospice care.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on June 28, 2025 at 11:00am at the Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church at 622 Joppa Farm Road, Joppa, MD. The family will receive friends from 10:00am to 11:00am in church. Interment will follow at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in Kingsville.
