Vincent Peter Schelling

Vincent Peter Schelling of Kingsville, MD, passed away at his home on August 22, 2022. He was born on January 25, 1965, in Corning, NY. He grew up in Corning, attending the public schools and graduating from Corning Community College. He then embarked on a career in high tech manufacturing, at first in Fishkill, NY. There, he met the love of his life Eileen Shaner. They were married in 1997. Vinni’s work as an engineer in the aerospace defense industry took him around the globe to countries in Europe and Asia, and led him and Eileen to establish households in New York, Arizona, New Mexico, Georgia, and California.

From an early age, Vinni had strong technical curiosity and an appetite for adventure. As a youth, these resulted in many disassemblies, almost as many repairs, and an occasional misadventure. When curiosity and adventurousness combined, they could result in minor conflagrations or explosions. As an adult, his technical proficiency led to his successful career and to an enviable collection of precision tools. His spirit of exploration led to a love of scuba diving with Eileen in exotic locations.

Above all, Vinni was known by all to be a loving, empathetic, and generous soul. He made friends wherever he went, and kept his friends for life. He helped others get their careers started. He and Eileen were devoted to their rescue dogs and gave them the extra love they sometimes need. He helped even passing acquaintances in need of help with home and car repairs, more than once gifting them vehicles.

Vinni is survived by his beloved wife Eileen, and by siblings Aline Schelling (Shelly Fischman) of Harpers Ferry, WV, Paul Schelling (Kate Hughes) of Corning, NY, and Anna Schelling (Andy Faust) of Stevensville, MI. He was a cherished uncle to Adele Fischman, Alecia Fischman, Costin Schelling, Josephine Schelling and Evelyn Faust. He is also survived by cousins and uncles in Florida and in Germany. Dog children Pluto and Suezi miss Vin on their daily walks.

He was predeceased by his parents Peter and Irene (Schmidt) Schelling, with whom he was close.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on September 3, 2022, at Lassahn Funeral Home in Kingsville, followed by a reception at Vinni’s home nearby.

A celebration of life is anticipated in the fall in Corning, NY.
