During my life time most of my conversations have been about the great Mom that I have. My Mother has always been so much more that a Mom. She was my teacher, my corrector, my guide, my confidant, my cheerleader, and in her last year’s my friend.
I talked to my Mother daily about many different topics. We discussed our mutual love of family and our faith. Mom would often ask me for scriptures to study and ask questions about areas she was not sure of. Mom loved David Jeremiah Ministries and subscribed to his newsletter.
During my childhood and early adulthood my Mother was always my hero. She was assertive and out spoken and had a true warrior spirit. She was a no nonsense, take no prisoners kind of gal. She taught my siblings and I the importance of not only respecting ourselves but that we must not belittle or disrespect others. Mom once told me I could learn a lesson from a hobo so I should never exhibit an attitude of superiority over any man. Lessons such as that one has prepared me to work in human services successfully with people less fortunate than myself.
My Mother taught the importance of standing up for not only what you believe in but also to stand for what is right. I learned silence about injustices that one is aware of is simply wrong. Many of today’s women and children suffer in silence when faced with physical, verbal, and mental abuse. Abuse toward women was a topic my Mother and I discussed often. I told her about the cycle of abuse and about the importance of women seeking help.
Now that my Mother has gone back home to Jesus I believe she would want women who suffer in silence to get all the help they can get.
