Dave and I started sailing in high school with the Boy Scouts. No better place to learn than the Chesapeake. We were consequently both devotees of Jack London, Herman Melville, Ernest Hemingway and Joseph Conrad. Our last adventure together before he went to college and I went into the Corps was a weekend sailing trip out of St. Michaels. Pirates 400 years to late. He continued sailing through college and once he came back to the east coast, worked as an instructor at DC Sail during the summer. My son went to sailing camp there with his Uncle and caught the bug while holding onto a sheet and being close hauled on the Potomac. Dave, you gave him something he will never forget. He talks about sailing all the time. He wrote about his adventures with you last week in school and got an A on the paper. Don't worry, Dave, I won't let him read Hemingway or Conrad until he's a lot older. Fair winds and following seas, my brother.
